Our founder Sascha Kurz named Queensland Professional Engineer of the Year!

Sascha received the coveted award at a gala event held at Voco Brisbane City Centre Hotel on 12 September and will now represent Queensland at the national awards in November.

During a 20-year career in the traditionally male-dominated engineering profession, Sascha has delivered more than $1 billion in projects for the public and private sectors, showcasing both project excellence and industry leadership.

She has blazed a career path for women in the sector, creating our company IPS, where women comprise over 30 per cent of the engineering workforce, a ratio of more than double the Australian average.

Sascha said she was delighted to receive the Professional Engineer of the Year award amid a strong field of outstanding candidates.

“Congratulations to all the other 2024 nominees and winners for helping to make Queensland such a powerhouse for the engineering profession,” she said.

“I am blown away by this honour and extend my deepest thanks to Engineers Australia, the team at IPS, and everyone who has supported me throughout my engineering journey.

“Being an engineer is all I ever wanted to do and having the opportunity to work on projects that make a real difference to the community and people’s lives has been incredibly fulfilling.

“I’m especially proud of all the other women who are making this same contribution and the chance I’ve had to help them and make engineering a more inclusive profession. I would encourage any girls or women considering a career in engineering to follow that dream.”

Sascha was recently elected as the Chair of the Engineers Australia College for Leadership and Management Committee QLD and has also established the first small-to-medium enterprise arrangement with Engineers Australia to create a sponsored pathway to Chartership for eligible IPS engineers.

The Engineers Australia judges were impressed by the “breadth and depth” of Sascha’s multi-faceted career.

“She displays passion and authenticity, being personable with an inclusive approach to dealing with people,” they said. “She is an engineer that turns ideas into actions.”
