Engineers v Lawyers – join us for the great ‘mock’ debate!

IPS is gearing up for a debate showdown, with Brisbane’s brightest engineers set to pit their wits against some of the city’s smartest construction lawyers.

We’ve teamed up with Engineers Australia’s College of Leadership and Management QLD (CMLQ) and Helix Legal to stage Engineers v Lawyers – a mock debate on ‘The Future of Project Success Lies in Human-AI Collaboration’.

Hosted by Andrew ‘Chappy’ Chapman, CEO of Queensland Major Contractors Association (QMCA), the fun takes place on Wednesday 21 August at The Brisbane Club, from 6pm-8pm.

IPS Founder and Director Sascha Kurz said the event promised to shine the spotlight on some of Brisbane’s sharpest minds. “At IPS, we thrive on pushing the boundaries of innovation in engineering,” she said.

“This debate is a fantastic opportunity to explore the relationships between human expertise and AI in shaping the future of project success.

“It’s a chance to delve into some crucial questions about the evolving role of technology but also a great excuse for Brisbane’s business community to get together, have some fun and attempt to outwit each other.

“We would love to see as many people as possible joining in the banter and supporting their favourite side, as we set out to discover which is mightier, the shovel really or the gavel.”

Helix Legal CEO Janelle Kerrisk said the lawyers would take the affirmative side, arguing that a human-AI partnership leveraged the strength of both, while the engineers would advocate for project management to stay primarily a human domain.

“Either way, this will be an entertaining and informative event filled with the best combination of arguments and laughter,” she said.

Free tickets for Engineers v Lawyers are available at eventbrite. The evening includes canapes and light refreshments, followed by drinks available for purchase at the bar.
